Cadifugio is a refuge located up on the Cadibona hill, nearby the main street that link Savona to the Piedmont region, a unique place where Alps and Apennines meet each other to the sea. Easy to reach (by car, train and bus), the Cadifugio refuge is 10 km by the sea and it is easily connected to Savona (and then to the main seaside spots) and to the main centres of Valle Bormida (Altare, Carcare, Cairo Montenotte, Millesimo, Piana Crixia). Not far from the “Alta Via dei Monti Liguri” the structure, totally surrounded by the green hills, is also an ideal base for excursion, walking tours, mountain bike trips and horse ridings.
The area is rich in history (it was an ancient Roman route, then it has been a famous battlefield scene during the napoleonic period), nature (the Regional Natural Park of Piana Crixia, the Nature Reserve of Adelasia), art and culture (the Altare Glass Museum, the worldwide famous Albisola ceramic centre, the Shrine of our Lady of Mercy and the Sistine Chapel in Savona), traditions (The Procession of the Good Friday and the tradition of the candlelight in the sea during mid-August holiday) and, of course, good food and wine (seafood, truffles, mushrooms, wild game, and more!).
The Cadifugio structure is managed by a cooperative group of citizens which together has decided to restore and recover the old abandoned school, a piece of history and memories for them all.
The refuge has two, four and six bedded rooms (up to 25 beds) making it ideal for both families and groups. Shared bathroom. As facilities, Cadifugio also offers an equipped guest kitchen and a convention room. Around the building there is a garden, a playground, a soccerfield and a boules court, as well as free and easy parking.
The town, Cadibona, is a small typical italian rural village that offers some essential services such as a pharmacy, a grocery store, a bar, a Post office, a horseriding school, a garage and a restaurant. Every year during July Cadifugio organises and hosts the Eggplant feast, a country fair to celebrate the typical local food with music and gastronomic stalls.
